Custom Mug Printing: How Business Mugs Are Branded
Custom mug printing for business: the techniques each mug lists, how to prepare artwork, one colour or full colour, and ordering in bulk, with UK prices ex VAT.
By Zintora Team

Custom mug printing puts your logo or artwork onto a mug using a technique matched to its material: ceramic transfer or full wraparound printing on ceramic, ceramic printing or an engraved glaze on stoneware, and laser engraving, screen printing or UV printing on steel, bamboo and plastic. Choose the mug by use, then the technique, then approve the proof.
This guide explains how business mugs are branded, step by step: which marking techniques each catalogue mug lists, how to prepare artwork, when full colour is worth it and when a one-colour mark is better, and how to order custom coffee mugs in volume. Every product, technique and price comes from the live product pages on zintora.uk. If you are still choosing between a desk mug and a travel mug, our guide to branded mugs and travel mugs compares the types first.
Custom mug printing techniques at a glance
Each mug in the catalogue lists its own personalisation options. The technique depends on the material, so the first question is not "how do we print it?" but "what is the mug made of?".
| Mug | Material and capacity | Techniques listed | From (ex VAT) | Minimum |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cobble Ceramic Mug | Glossy ceramic, 300 ml | Ceramic transfer printing, full wraparound printing | £3.93 | 48 |
| Ember Mug | Stoneware, 350 ml | Ceramic printing, engraved glaze | £6.08 | 36 |
| Mug with Lid | Plastic, 350 ml | Laser engraving, screen printing, UV printing | £6.43 | 25 |
| Mug with Wooden Base | Ceramic on a wooden base, 250 ml | Laser engraving, screen printing, UV printing | £7.51 | 25 |
| Thermal Espresso Mug | Stainless steel thermal, 310 ml | Laser engraving, screen printing, UV printing | £8.94 | 25 |
| Corporate Steel Mug | Stainless steel, 400 ml | Laser engraving, screen printing, UV printing | £9.65 | 25 |
| Steel Thermal Mug | Stainless steel thermal, 750 ml | Laser engraving, screen printing, UV printing | £12.87 | 25 |
| Voyage Travel Mug | Vacuum-insulated stainless steel, 400 ml | Laser engraving, UV printing | £15.01 | 25 |

Prices are starting prices shown in the catalogue on 15 October 2026, ex VAT; printing and delivery are extra, UK import VAT and duties are paid on delivery. The final technique is confirmed according to the design, material and quantity, and the quote confirms the final figure.
Printing on ceramic mugs: transfer and full wraparound
Ceramic is the classic printed promotional mug, and it offers the largest, smoothest print surface. The Cobble Ceramic Mug, from £3.93 ex VAT, is a 300 ml glossy ceramic mug with a C-shaped handle in white, black, green and yellow. It lists two techniques:
- Ceramic transfer printing: suited to a logo placed to one side of the handle. According to the product sheet, ceramic transfer printing is dishwasher safe.
- Full wraparound printing: a design that goes all the way round the body, useful for patterns, campaign artwork or a repeated logo.
The Mug with Wooden Base is also ceramic, but its listing gives laser engraving, screen printing or UV printing instead. The proof confirms which technique suits the surface and the design.
Whichever ceramic mug you choose, remember that it is fragile in transit. If each mug goes to a different address, ask in the request about individual packaging and transit protection.
Stoneware: ceramic printing or an engraved glaze
The Ember Mug, from £6.08 ex VAT, is a 350 ml stoneware mug with a matt exterior and a reactive speckled glaze inside, so the speckle varies slightly from mug to mug. It comes in matte black, cream, forest green and clay. The logo goes on the outside, by ceramic printing or with an engraved glaze, and the digital proof confirms the technique, position and size before production. The product sheet states that it is dishwasher and microwave safe.
Because the mug already has character, a small, simple mark usually works better than a busy design. That makes the Ember a good fit for client gifts and welcome kits rather than kitchen stock.
Steel, bamboo and plastic: laser engraving, screen printing and UV printing
Most of the other mugs in the range list the same three options: laser engraving, screen printing and UV printing. Here is how they differ in practice.
- Laser engraving marks the logo into the finish of the mug. The result is one tone, uses no ink and cannot show brand colours. On the Voyage Travel Mug, the product page describes it as marking the logo into the body finish.
- Screen printing pushes ink through a screen, one screen per colour. It suits flat colours, and a one-colour logo is simpler to set up than a multi-colour one.
- UV printing is the route when the design needs colour. The Voyage Travel Mug lists UV printing "when the design needs colour" as the alternative to engraving.
The Voyage Travel Mug, from £15.01 ex VAT, holds 400 ml in a vacuum-insulated stainless steel body with a flip lid that opens with one hand and is designed not to spill. It comes in matte black, stone white and deep green. For steel bottles branded the same way, see our branded water bottles page.
The product sheets for the steel, bamboo and plastic mugs give capacities and approximate weights but do not state washing or microwave instructions, so ask for care guidance with the quote rather than assuming.
Full colour or one colour?
This is the decision that most affects how custom mugs with a logo look, and sometimes what they cost.
Choose one colour when:
- the logo works as a single shape or wordmark;
- the mug is steel or a darker colour and you want a discreet, permanent mark (laser engraving);
- you are ordering cheap printed mugs for an event and want the simplest setup.
Choose full colour when:
- the logo depends on brand colours or gradients;
- you want a photo, an illustration or a pattern;
- the design wraps round the whole mug (full wraparound printing on the Cobble Ceramic Mug).
If you are unsure, ask for both versions in the request. The digital proof shows the design on the actual mug colour, so you can compare before anything is produced.
Preparing your artwork for mug printing
Good artwork saves a round of corrections. Every mug page gives the same file guidance: send your logo as a vector PDF, SVG or EPS; a high-resolution PNG with a transparent background can also work. A few practical points help on a curved surface:
- Keep it simple for engraving. Fine lines and very small text can lose detail. A simplified version of the logo often marks better.
- Give colour references. If colour matters, name the brand colours you want so the proof can be checked against them.
- Say where the logo goes. On the Cobble Ceramic Mug, the product page describes a simple logo to the left of the handle or a wraparound design. State your preferred position and whether the mark should be on one side or both.
- Mind the mug colour. A dark logo on a black mug disappears. The proof shows the contrast on the colour you choose.
You will receive a digital proof to approve the placement, size and colour before production. Nothing is produced until you approve it.
Choosing a mug by use
The right mug depends on where it will be used, and the technique follows from that. A short guide:
- Office kitchen, events and volume orders: the Cobble Ceramic Mug, the lowest starting price of the mugs in this guide at £3.93 ex VAT.
- Client gifts and teams back in the office: the Ember Mug, stoneware with a speckled glaze.
- Commuters and sales teams: the Voyage Travel Mug, insulated with a one-handed flip lid.
- Desk coffee in an unbreakable mug: the Corporate Steel Mug or the Thermal Espresso Mug.
- Long shifts and large drinks: the Steel Thermal Mug, 750 ml.
- Light and inexpensive with a lid: the Mug with Lid, 350 ml plastic.
Mugs also fit well into kits. Our employee welcome packs and corporate gifts pages show ready-made combinations that include them. To compare every model side by side, see our printed mugs page.
Ordering custom mugs in bulk
Ordering custom mugs in bulk is mostly about planning. Each mug has its own minimum order, from 25 units for the steel, plastic and travel mugs to 48 for the Cobble Ceramic Mug. Unit prices are starting prices, and the final amount depends on the quantity, the design and the model selected.
A few tips for volume orders:
- One design per run. Splitting an order across several designs or several mug colours can change the setup, so ask how it affects the quote.
- Count fragile items. For ceramic and stoneware, allow for packing and transit protection in the budget.
- Group destinations. Delivery to one office is simpler than delivery to many addresses; the quote confirms delivery to each destination.
- Plan backwards. Production takes 10 to 20 working days after proof approval, confirmed in the quote. Add time for artwork and proof approval before that.
Zintora delivers across the UK and internationally to Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Asia-Pacific and the Americas.

Sustainability questions to ask
If your company reports on purchasing, ask for the details with the quote. The only certificate we name is the GRS of The Tenth House, checked per lot; certificates for other products are available on request. The Voyage Travel Mug page mentions programmes to cut down on disposable cups in the office. For more, see our sustainability page.
