Branded mugs are ceramic, stoneware, steel or bamboo mugs carrying your company logo, used in office kitchens, welcome kits and client gifts. For the desk, a ceramic or stoneware mug is the classic choice; for commuters, a personalised travel mug with a lid and an insulated steel body. Compare material, capacity, branding and minimum before you ask for a quote.

This guide compares the mugs and travel mugs in the Zintora catalogue using only what their product pages state: material, capacity, branding methods, minimums and starting prices. Where a product sheet says nothing about washing or heat retention, we do not fill the gap with a guess. To see every model side by side, go to our printed mugs page.

Branded mugs at a glance: which type for which use

The first decision is where the mug will live. A mug that stays on a desk needs a comfortable handle and a good print surface. A mug that travels needs a lid and, ideally, an insulated body. A mug in a gift box needs to feel like a present.

Ceramic and stoneware: the classic branded mug

Ceramic is what most people picture when they hear "branded mug": a solid body, a handle and a wide print area. In the catalogue there are three options.

The Cobble Ceramic Mug is a 300 ml glossy ceramic mug with a C-shaped handle, in white, black, green and yellow. Its strength is the print surface: it takes a full wraparound design or a simple logo beside the handle, using ceramic transfer printing or full wraparound printing. According to the product sheet, ceramic transfer printing is dishwasher safe. It starts from £3.93 ex VAT with a minimum of 48, and the product page lists 10 to 14 days of production from proof approval.

The Ember Mug is a 350 ml stoneware mug with a matt exterior and a reactive speckled glaze inside, so the speckle varies slightly from mug to mug. It comes in matte black, cream, forest green and clay, with the logo applied by ceramic printing or as an engraved glaze. The product sheet states that it is dishwasher and microwave safe. It starts from £6.08 ex VAT with a minimum of 36 and lists 12 to 16 days of production after design approval. It is the better pick when the mug is a gift rather than kitchen stock.

The Mug with Wooden Base is a 250 ml ceramic mug on a wooden base, from £7.51 with a minimum of 25, branded by laser engraving, screen printing or UV printing. The proof confirms which technique suits each surface.

A practical point for all ceramic and stoneware: they are fragile in transit. If each mug is going to a different address, ask for individual packaging and transit protection in your request.

Steel mugs and thermal mugs

Stainless steel suits teams that drop things, work outdoors or want a mug that keeps going for years. The steel models in the catalogue share the same branding options (laser engraving, screen printing or UV printing), the same four colours (black, white, navy blue and green) and a minimum of 25:

  • Compact Steel Mug, 250 ml, from £6.79 ex VAT.
  • Thermal Espresso Mug, 310 ml stainless steel thermal mug, from £8.94.
  • Corporate Steel Mug, 400 ml stainless steel mug, from £9.65.
  • Thermal Mug with Handle, 450 ml stainless steel thermal mug, from £11.08.
  • 590 ml Thermal Tumbler, stainless steel, from £11.80.
  • Steel Thermal Mug, 750 ml stainless steel thermal mug, from £12.87.

Laser engraving marks the logo into the finish of the steel, so the result is one tone and adds no ink. If your logo depends on brand colours, UV or screen printing is the route; the proof shows the result on the actual mug colour. The product sheets for these models give capacities and approximate weights but do not state washing instructions, so ask for care guidance with the quote rather than assuming.

Personalised travel mugs and custom travel mugs

A personalised travel mug is a different product from a desk mug. It has to close, it has to be comfortable to carry and it should fit the way people actually travel: car cup holders, train tables, bags.

The Voyage Travel Mug is the dedicated travel mug in the range. It holds 400 ml, with a vacuum-insulated stainless steel body and a flip lid that opens with one hand and is designed not to spill. Inside, a ceramic-feel coating avoids a metallic taste. It comes in matte black, stone white and deep green, branded by laser engraving or by UV printing when the design needs colour. It starts from £15.01 ex VAT with a minimum of 25, and the product page lists 12 to 16 days of production from design approval.

Other options for a custom travel mug:

  • Commute Thermal Cup (from £2.50, minimum 50): a cup with a lid for commuting and office gifts. It is a quote-based proposal: capacity, insulation, closure and finish are agreed in writing before production, and the price is for a basic, undecorated configuration.
  • Mug with Lid (from £6.43, minimum 25): a 350 ml plastic mug with a lid. Lighter and cheaper, but plastic rather than steel.
  • Eco Cork Tumbler with Bamboo Lid (from £10.72, minimum 25): the supplier describes the body as wheat fibre with a cork grip and a bamboo lid. It is single wall, so we do not present it as thermal. Several supplier claims about this item need a technical data sheet before they are confirmed.

When you compare travel mugs, check the lid as carefully as the body. Ask how it closes, whether it is designed to be leak resistant and how it should be cleaned.

What about enamel mugs?

Enamel mugs are popular for outdoor and camping-themed merchandise, but there is no enamel mug in our current range. If you want a rugged metal mug, look at the steel models above. If an enamel mug is essential for your brief, say so in your request and we will tell you whether we can source one; we will not describe a steel mug as enamel.

Custom mugs with logo: choosing the branding method

The method depends on the material:

  • Ceramic transfer and wraparound printing suit ceramic: full colour, and the Cobble can carry a design all the way round.
  • Ceramic printing and engraved glaze are the options on the Ember stoneware mug.
  • Laser engraving suits steel and bamboo: one tone, permanent, understated.
  • UV printing puts colour on hard surfaces such as steel when the logo relies on brand colours.
  • Screen printing suits simple flat-colour logos on the steel, bamboo and plastic models.

Send a vector logo where you can. The digital proof shows the technique, position and size on the actual mug colour before production. On a mug, the logo is usually placed so that it faces the drinker or the people around them; tell us which side you prefer for left- or right-handed use.

Packaging, lead times, delivery and sustainability

For gifts, a mug looks better in a box. Packaging can be a printed kraft box or a rigid gift box, confirmed in the quote. Mugs also work well inside employee welcome packs with a notebook and a pen; for more ideas by occasion, see our guide to corporate gifts for employees.

Production starts after proof approval. Our general lead time is 10 to 20 working days after proof approval, and the product's own listed time applies where it is shown, as with the 10 to 14 days on the Cobble and 12 to 16 days on the Ember and Voyage. The quote confirms the timing. We deliver across the UK and internationally to Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Asia-Pacific and the Americas, to one address or many.

The quote can include an estimated carbon footprint per product, we can provide sustainability reports with Scope 3 data, and certificates for certified products are available on request. A reusable mug can support a plan to cut down on disposable cups, but we do not describe any mug as carbon neutral and we do not buy carbon credits.

If you are also weighing up bottles, our guide on how to choose water bottles for business compares steel, Tritan and glass.

Branded mugs buyer checklist

  • Decide where the mug will be used: desk, commute or gift.
  • Choose the material: ceramic or stoneware for the desk, insulated steel for travel.
  • Check the capacity against how people drink: espresso, standard coffee or a large refill.
  • Pick a branding method that suits the material and your logo colours.
  • Ask for care instructions where the product sheet does not state them.
  • Check the minimum: 25 for most models, 36 for the Ember and 48 for the Cobble.
  • Plan packaging and transit protection, especially for ceramic sent to home addresses.
  • Count back from your delivery date, allowing for proof, production and transport.

Frequently asked questions

Which branded mug is cheapest?

The Cobble Ceramic Mug starts from £3.93 ex VAT with a minimum of 48. The Commute Thermal Cup starts lower, from £2.50, but it is a quote-based proposal priced for a basic, undecorated configuration.

Are your mugs dishwasher safe?

Only where the product sheet says so. The Ember Mug's product sheet states it is dishwasher and microwave safe, and the Cobble's states that ceramic transfer printing is dishwasher safe. For other models, ask for care guidance in the quote.

Do you have a personalised travel mug that keeps drinks hot?

The Voyage Travel Mug has a vacuum-insulated stainless steel body and a one-handed flip lid. The thermal steel mugs are also listed as thermal. The product pages do not state a heat-retention time, so we do not quote one.

Do you sell enamel mugs?

Not at present. Our metal options are stainless steel mugs and thermal mugs.

What is the minimum order for custom mugs with logo?

It depends on the model: 25 for most steel, bamboo and travel mugs, 36 for the Ember and 48 for the Cobble.
