Corporate Gifts for Employees: Ideas by Occasion and Budget
Gift ideas for employees by occasion and budget, from welcome kits to Christmas packs, with catalogue prices, minimums and a short note on UK trivial benefits.
By Zintora Team

The best corporate gifts for employees are useful things people choose to keep: a good hoodie, a travel mug, a notebook or a curated pack. Plan by occasion (welcome, Christmas, milestones, remote teams), set a budget per person, check the UK trivial benefits rules and order early enough for branding, packing and delivery.

This guide covers gifts for employees by occasion and by budget, using real items and packs from the Zintora catalogue with their starting prices and minimums. It also includes a short note on the UK tax treatment of small staff gifts. For a ready-made range, see our corporate gifts page.
What makes a good gift for employees
A staff gift does two jobs: it says thank you, and it either gets used or it does not. The gifts that work tend to share a few traits:
- Useful every day. A mug, a bottle, a notebook or a warm layer earns its place. A novelty does not.
- Good enough to keep. People notice quality. One well-made item usually lands better than several cheap ones.
- Branded with restraint. A small embroidered logo or a tone-on-tone mark makes a hoodie wearable outside work. A large logo can turn a gift into a uniform.
- Fair across the team. Different gifts for different grades can cause more friction than they are worth. A choice of two or three items at the same value is easier.
- Delivered properly. A box and a card change how a gift is received, especially for remote staff.

Different moments call for different gifts. The table gives starting points from the current range. Prices are indicative per unit or per pack and ex VAT; printing and delivery are extra, UK import VAT and duties are paid on delivery, and the quote confirms the final figure.

Welcome gifts for new starters
A welcome gift sets the tone for someone's first week. A kit with a notebook, a pen, a bottle and a T-shirt is useful from day one. Our welcome kits, including the Day One Essentials Kit and Welcome Kit Pro, take 10 to 15 working days, and the quote confirms the date. See our employee welcome packs and the guide on what to include in an employee welcome pack.
Christmas gifts for staff
Christmas is the biggest single gifting moment for most companies, and it is also when production calendars fill up. Seasonal items such as Christmas socks or a sweatshirt work well on their own; a pack with a mug, a beanie and a snack box feels more like a present. See the seasonal range on Christmas corporate gifts and brief us early.
Gifts for remote and hybrid teams
When people work from home, the gift is often the most tangible link to the company. The Remote Team Kit combines a Summit Hoodie, an Ember Mug, a vegan leather desk mat and a slim power bank, shipped individually to each colleague's door. We deliver across the UK and internationally to Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Asia-Pacific and the Americas, so one order can reach a distributed team.
Milestones and thank-yous
Work anniversaries, a finished project or the end of a busy season deserve something people will use. A heavyweight hoodie such as the Summit Hoodie, a Ledger Hardcover Journal (from £13.58, minimum 25) or an Aurora Candle and Card Set (from £9.29, minimum 30, soy wax) all work. Bear in mind the tax note below: a gift given as a reward for work does not qualify as a trivial benefit.
Gifts for employees by budget
Set the budget per person first, including branding, packing and delivery, then choose the item. These are starting prices ex VAT before branding and delivery:
| Budget per person | Ideas from the catalogue |
|---|---|
| Under £10 | Ember Mug (£6.08), Christmas Socks (£6.43), Classic Notebook (£6.08), Fieldline Bucket Hat (£8.94), Aurora Candle and Card Set (£9.29) |
| £10 to £25 | Atlas Steel Bottle (£12.87), Toast Snack Box (£12.15), Ledger Hardcover Journal (£13.58), Voyage Travel Mug (£15.01), Summit Hoodie (£22.88) |
| £25 to £50 | Harbor Zip Hoodie (£25.74), Day One Essentials Kit (£27.88), Holiday Appreciation Pack (£35.03), New Hire Kit (£45.75) |
| Over £50 | Executive Client Gift Box (£52.90), Welcome Kit Pro (£56.48), Remote Team Kit (£63.62), Christmas Pack (£85.07) |
Remember that the starting price is not the total. Branding, packaging, delivery and UK import VAT and duties all add to the cost per person. If you want to stay within a fixed amount, give us the target in your request and we will build the quote around it. Browse ready-made combinations on our packs page.
A short note on UK tax: trivial benefits
In the UK, some small gifts to employees can count as trivial benefits, which means the employer does not pay tax or National Insurance on them and does not need to report them. According to HMRC's guidance, all of these must apply:
- the gift cost you £50 or less to provide;
- it is not cash or a cash voucher;
- it is not a reward for the employee's work or performance;
- it is not in the terms of the employee's contract.
If a gift does not meet all of these conditions, for example because it costs more than £50, it is not a trivial benefit and tax is due under the usual rules for employee benefits. Directors of close companies (limited companies run by five or fewer shareholders) cannot receive trivial benefits worth more than £300 in a tax year.
In practice, a Christmas gift or a welcome kit given to all staff can fit the rules if it stays within the cost limit, whereas a gift for hitting a target is a reward for work and does not. Work out the full cost of each gift with your accountant, including branding, packaging, delivery and VAT, rather than relying on the ex VAT unit price. Read HMRC's own guidance on trivial benefits.
General information, not tax advice. Check with your accountant.
Personal or branded: how much logo?
Staff gifts sit between merchandise and a personal present, so the branding should be lighter than on a uniform. A few options:
- Tone-on-tone embroidery on a hoodie or cap. The Summit Hoodie lists tone-on-tone embroidery among its options.
- Laser engraving on steel bottles and travel mugs: one tone and understated.
- Branding on the packaging rather than the item: a printed kraft box or a rigid gift box with your logo, and a personalised card inside.
- A small mark plus a message, such as the year or the team name, on a notebook's first page.
The digital proof shows every mark before production, so you can judge whether the logo feels like a gift or like a uniform.
Packaging and presentation
Presentation is part of the gift. Packaging options are a printed kraft box or a rigid gift box, confirmed in the quote; our guide to corporate gift boxes compares ready-made boxes by budget. A card with a short, personal message from the team or the manager adds more than an extra item would. If each gift goes to a home address, ask for individual packing so it arrives ready to open.
Timing: when to order
Production starts after proof approval, and our general lead time is 10 to 20 working days after proof approval, confirmed in the quote; welcome kits take 10 to 15 working days. Add time for collecting sizes, approving the proof and delivery. For Christmas, brief us well before the last working weeks of the year so there is room for every step. For new starters, keep a small stock of welcome kits so you are not ordering one at a time.
Sustainability without overclaiming
If your company reports on purchasing, ask for the details with the quote. We can include an estimated carbon footprint per product, provide sustainability reports with Scope 3 data and supply certificates for certified products on request. The only certificate supplier we name is GRS of The Tenth House, checked per lot. We do not buy carbon credits and never describe a gift as carbon neutral. The most sustainable staff gift is usually the one that gets used for years.

- Set a budget per person including branding, packing, delivery and VAT.
- Check the trivial benefits conditions with your accountant if you want the gift to qualify.
- Choose useful items people keep, and keep the logo subtle.
- Collect sizes early for clothing gifts.
- Decide on packaging and a personal card.
- List delivery addresses: office, home or both.
- Count back from the date, allowing for proof, production and delivery.
Frequently asked questions
What are good corporate gifts for employees?
Useful items people keep: hoodies, travel mugs, steel bottles, notebooks and curated packs. A welcome kit for new starters and a seasonal pack at Christmas cover most companies' needs.
How much should I spend on staff gifts?
There is no fixed amount. The £50 trivial benefits limit is a useful reference point, but whether a gift qualifies depends on all the conditions, not just the cost. Set a budget per person and check with your accountant.
Is there a minimum order?
Yes, and it depends on the product. Among the gifts in this guide it runs from 10 for packs such as the New Hire Kit and Welcome Kit Pro to 36 for the Ember Mug. Each product page shows its minimum.
Can you send gifts to employees' homes?
Yes. Give the addresses in your request; the quote confirms delivery to each destination across the UK and internationally to Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Asia-Pacific and the Americas.
How long does it take?
Generally 10 to 20 working days after proof approval, and 10 to 15 working days for welcome kits, confirmed in the quote.
