Which Packaging Suppliers Handle Product Boxes and Corporate Gift Packaging?

Product boxes at volume and executive corporate gift packaging are different jobs. The supplier types, when to split the work and what to ask each one.

Which Packaging Suppliers Handle Product Boxes and Corporate Gift Packaging?

Usually not one supplier. Consumer product boxes for millions of units a year are a job for a packaging converter with its own print and die-cutting lines, while corporate gift packaging for an executive client programme is a smaller, bespoke run better handled by a gifting or merchandise supplier. Many brands use both, with one shared brand specification.

This guide is for brand, procurement and marketing teams who were asked to find "one packaging partner" for two very different jobs. It explains the types of supplier, where each one is strong, when splitting the work makes sense and what to ask before you sign. We are open about where Zintora fits: we supply branded gift boxes, packs and merchandise for corporate programmes, and we are not a high-volume consumer packaging converter. For a wider comparison of gifting companies, see our guide to the best corporate gifting companies.

Two jobs that look similar but are not

On a mood board, a retail product box and an executive gift box can look alike: printed board, a logo, a nice finish. In production they have almost nothing in common.

Consumer product boxes at volume are part of your supply chain. They run on high-speed lines, have to fit filling and packing machines, carry legal text and barcodes, and are ordered against a forecast for the whole year. The key questions are capacity, consistency from run to run, unit cost at scale, compliance and continuity of supply.

Corporate gift packaging for executives is part of a relationship. Runs are small, often a few dozen to a few hundred boxes per occasion, the contents change from year to year, and each box may carry a personal card. The key questions are presentation, flexibility on contents, kitting, personalisation and delivery to named people at different addresses.

A supplier built for one is rarely good value for the other. A converter set up for long runs may find a run of 200 rigid boxes uneconomic, and a gifting supplier is not set up to supply a retail line with boxes for every week of the year.

The main types of packaging supplier

Before you write a shortlist, decide which type of supplier you are actually looking for. The table sets out the usual categories.

Supplier typeWhat it does wellTypical runsFits product boxes at volume?Fits executive gift packaging?
Large folding carton or corrugated converterPrinted cartons and shippers on high-speed lines, machine-fit tolerances, multi-site supplyVery large, repeatYes, its core workRarely economic for small bespoke runs
Rigid box and luxury packaging makerHand-finished rigid boxes, magnetic lids, inserts, special finishesSmall to mediumFor premium product lines onlyYes, for the box itself
Online custom box printerStandard mailer and product box formats with your printSmall to mediumFor start-ups and small rangesFor simple branded mailers
Corporate gifting or merchandise supplierBox plus branded contents, kitting, cards, delivery to many addressesSmall to medium, per occasionNoYes, including what goes inside
Contract packer or fulfilment houseAssembly, storage and dispatch of kits made elsewhereAnyPacks, does not usually printPacks and sends, contents bought separately

The last two rows are often confused. A fulfilment house can store and send your executive gifts, but someone still has to source and brand the contents and the box. A gifting supplier does that sourcing and branding as part of the job.

When to split the work, and when one supplier can do both

Split the work when any of these apply:

  • Your product boxes run into the millions each year. At that scale, the packaging converter is a strategic supplier with audits, forecasts and contracts. Mixing a small gift programme into that relationship rarely gets you good service on the gifts.
  • The executive programme is spread across countries. Gift boxes for clients in several European countries need kitting, cards and delivery to named people, which is a service job rather than a print job.
  • The contents change. If this year's executive gift is a notebook, pen and bottle, and next year's is a tumbler and a backpack, you need a supplier who sources and brands the contents, not only the box.

One supplier can sensibly cover both when the volumes are modest: a small consumer range with a few thousand boxes a year plus a gift programme might fit a rigid box maker that also offers kitting. Even then, ask to see how the two jobs are planned, because seasonal gift peaks often fall at the same time as retail peaks.

How to keep the brand consistent across two suppliers

The worry with splitting is that the gift box will not match the product box. A short brand specification solves most of it:

  • Colour references. Give both suppliers the same colour references for each print process, and ask each to show the result on a digital proof before production. Board, coatings and print methods differ, so agree what counts as an acceptable match.
  • Logo files and clear space. Send the same vector files and minimum sizes to both.
  • Finishes. Decide which finishes are reserved for the executive programme, such as a belly band or a premium box, so the gift feels different from the retail pack.
  • Tone of the card. The card inside the gift box carries the relationship; write it once and approve it centrally.

What Zintora can supply for the executive programme

For the corporate gift side, the branded gift boxes page shows the boxes and finishes we offer. Boxes currently live on zintora.uk include:

  • Premium Box with Logo. A cardboard presentation box with your logo, for kits that should look finished when opened.
  • Custom Box with Belly Band. A box with a printed band around it, a simple way to give an executive gift a distinct look.
  • Printed Kraft Box. A printed kraft cardboard box for a natural, understated presentation.

Each of these three states a minimum of 50 units on its product page. For a ready-made executive set, the Red Executive Gift Set combines a notebook, pen, keyring and bottle in a presentation box with a fitted interior, and the Black & Cork Gift Set puts a notebook, pen and bottle in a coordinated box; for these two sets the minimum is confirmed in the quote. The full range is in the catalogue, and our corporate gifts page groups the gift options by occasion. If the gifts need to travel as kits, our guide to branded shipping boxes covers the outer box.

What we do not do is supply consumer product boxes for retail lines at volume. If that is part of your brief, keep it with a packaging converter and use us for the executive programme.

Pricing is confirmed in your quote, ex VAT; printing and delivery are extra, UK import VAT and duties are paid on delivery.

Delivery for an executive programme across Europe

An executive programme rarely goes to one address. Clients sit in different offices, some work from home, and a few will be travelling at the moment you send. Plan for that from the start:

  • Collect names, addresses and delivery notes in one list, with the country for each person.
  • Decide whether gifts go to offices or homes, and whether recipients should confirm their address first.
  • Ask the supplier to show delivery and any customs formalities per country in the quote. Since the UK left the EU, gifts sent from the UK to EU countries are exports, so paperwork and import charges at the destination need planning. GOV.UK sets out the basics on its exporting goods page. General information, not tax advice. Check with your accountant.

Zintora delivers across the UK and internationally to Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Asia-Pacific and the Americas, to offices or to each person's home; the quote confirms delivery for each country.

Timing: work back from the date the gift should arrive

For executive gifts the date usually matters more than for retail packaging. Count backwards: delivery to each country, then production, then the digital proof, then the brief and quote. Production takes 10 to 20 working days after proof approval, confirmed in the quote. Delivery is planned on top of that, so for a year-end programme start early in the autumn.

The packaging converter for your product boxes will run its own planning cycle. Make sure your marketing calendar shows both, so the gift launch is not squeezed by a retail packaging change at the same time.

Questions to ask each supplier

Ask the same questions of every candidate, so the answers are comparable:

  1. Which of our two jobs is your core work, and which would you subcontract?
  2. What is your minimum per design, and can one design be split across box sizes or contents?
  3. Will we approve a digital proof of every printed item, including the box and the card?
  4. How do you handle kitting, and who packs the gifts?
  5. Can you deliver to individual addresses in each country we name, and how are customs and import charges shown?
  6. Until what point can we change quantities or contents, and what happens after that?
  7. Who is our named contact during the programme?

Frequently asked questions

Can one supplier handle consumer product boxes and corporate gift packaging?

Sometimes, when volumes are modest. When product boxes run into the millions each year, most brands keep them with a packaging converter and give the executive programme to a gifting or merchandise supplier.

Does Zintora make consumer product packaging?

No. We supply branded gift boxes, packs and merchandise for corporate programmes, with a digital proof before production. We do not supply retail product boxes at volume.

How small can an executive gift box run be?

It depends on the box. The Premium Box with Logo, Custom Box with Belly Band and Printed Kraft Box each start at 50 units, as their product pages state; for ready-made sets the minimum is confirmed in the quote.

Can executive gifts go to homes as well as offices?

Yes. Give us the address list with the country for each person, and the quote confirms delivery and any customs formalities per shipment.

How do I compare quotes from different packaging suppliers?

Ask each one to quote the same specification, quantity and delivery addresses, and compare what is included: box, contents, branding, kitting and delivery. To start with us, request a quote with your recipient numbers and countries.
